Armenia, Turkey |

A winter school entitled Turkish-Armenian Dialogue and School of Discourse Transformation was organized by Okan University (Turkey) and its partners in Armenia. The winter school took place both in Yerevan and Istanbul from the 11th to 20st January 2015 and brought together 14 students and academicians from Yerevan State University and Okan University.

The winter school enabled participants from both countries to involve in a  dialogue on historic events that had affected Armenian-Turkish relations and attend seminars on conflict resolution. In addition to the main program, the winter school participants visited museums and other cultural sites, took part in different events.

In Istanbul they joint a rally in commemoration of Hrant Dink. One of the other events included in the Istanbul program was “The musical journey from Armenia to Turkey” that was held on January 18 at the Cezayir Meeting Hall in Galatasaray, Istanbul. Murat Meriç, a prominent DJ and music writer was the guest speaker of the event.

These seminars and events provided opportunities for a peaceful dialogue between the parties in addition to establishing contacts for a longer-term interaction and cooperation between the academic staff and students of the two universities.

The winter school was made possible through cooperation between Umut Azak from Okan University’s Department of International Relations, Yerevan State University, the Imagine Center for Conflict Transformation and Association of Young Historians in Yerevan.

Turkish-Armenian Dialogue and School of Discourse Transformation is a grant project funded under the Support to the Armenia-Turkey Normalization Process supported by the European Union.
